The capabilities it offers are most useful to our services. We'd like to contribute code improvements to your repository to fix bugs and clean up the code base. As our changes may be somewhat hefty, we'd like to do so on a SVN branch on your repository (preferably off a semi-stable branch or trunk), until we've stabilized the changes enough to port them back to your trunk. We'd also like accounts and access to your bug management system, so you can review our suggested changes. There are two developers directly experimenting with Wikiwyg at ManyOne. Charley Manske, a key member of Netscape's old Composer team, is looking into adapting Wikiwyg as one of our easy-to-use content creation tools for our 'stewards,' who are building the Digital Universe (http://www.digitaluniverse.net). I am a Mozilla hacker, primarily in terms of DOM, Mozilla's user interface, and JavaScript. For example, I note your ToDo page (http://svn.wikiwyg.net/code/trunk/wikiwyg/ToDo) mentions emulating Ctrl+K for hyperlinks in Firefox. That's relatively easy to do, with a XUL dialog and a DOM event listener defined in JavaScript. (Typically, I work on tools for extending the SeaMonkey project, but Firefox is closely enough related that it's trivial to make the changes necessary, and for your web-based application, it's no difference at all.) I also wrote an article several years ago about JavaScript strict warnings (http://www.javascriptkit.com/javatutors/serror.shtml), and why it's important to fix them, as well as the JavaScript Developer's Dictionary (Sams Publishing, May 2002). I notice you mention the JavaScript Archive Network on your project. I was pleased at its introduction at the O'Reilly Open Source Convention 2005 in Portland, OR. Whatever I can do to help, I'd like to. Very Respectfully Yours, Alexander J. To mirror our SVN repo I'd suggest either using SVN::Mirror (http://search.cpan.org/~clkao/SVN-Mirror-0.68/) or SVK (http://svk.elixus.org). The former is a simple mirror/syncing tool, while the latter is a full-featured distributed version control system. As far as access to our bug management system, unfortunately right now the Wikiwyg bugs are in the same system as the rest of our product's bugs, and there's no easy way to split them up, so we'd need to come up with a way to either limit access to the existing system, or maybe use a different system entirely for Wikiwyg. That's something we'll have to discuss internally, I think. But for discussion of changes, I think this list is probably the best place to do it anwyay. You can simply write up what you'd like to do and we can talk about both the concept and possible implementations. There may be more. Hi Alex, Good to see some life on this list. I'm just a user of wikiwyg, with very little Javascript knowledge, so it would be very helpful to me if there were patches posted as well as bug reports. Do you plan on doing that? If you are modifying a separate SVN mirror, posting the patches would also help to prevent unnecessary divergence between the copies. I have tried this with my wiki prototype and ran into some serious problems. When starting wysiwyg mode right after creating the wikiwyg "area" it did not work. When I delayed setting the mode for some fractions of a second it worked fine (in firefox). I did not find the time to dig deeper, but I suppose it has something to do with the iframe, that's created by wikiwyg. -Juergen From dave.rolsky@socialtext.com Wed Feb 15 09:39:11 2006 Received: from urth.org ([65.103.28.217]) by shale.socialtext.net with esmtp (Exim 4.34) id 1F9QcQ-0004Bq-T6 for wikiwyg-dev@wikiwyg.net; Wed, 15 Feb 2006 09:39:11 -0800 Received: from autarch (helo=localhost) by urth.org with local-esmtp (Exim 4.52) id 1F9Qcv-0003Iw-Ef for wikiwyg-dev@wikiwyg.net; Wed, 15 Feb 2006 11:39:41 -0600 Date: Wed, 15 Feb 2006 11:39:41 -0600 (CST) From: Dave Rolsky X-X-Sender: autarch@urth.org To: wikiwyg-dev@wikiwyg.net Subject: Re: [Wikiwyg-dev] Wysiwyg at the end of the web page loading In-Reply-To: <43F2FEC4.2020608@hexagon.at> Message-ID: References: <20060208153327.GA4859@corino> <43F2FB93.5060206@mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk> <43F2FEC4.2020608@hexagon.at> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: MULTIPART/MIXED; BOUNDARY="1732368668-619766365-1140025181=:29243" X-BeenThere: wikiwyg-dev@wikiwyg.net X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: wikiwyg-dev.wikiwyg.net List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 15 Feb 2006 17:39:11 -0000 This message is in MIME format. Maybe you tried to access a DOM element before it was available, which is= =20 why the delay fixed the problem. You might find the JSAN library DOM.Ready= =20 useful (disclaimer, I wrote it):=20 http://www.openjsan.org/doc/a/au/autarch/DOM/Ready/0.13/index.html It lets you set up a callback that will not be run til a given element is= =20 ready.
